Family Immigration Map

An important part of your family’s American story is where your ancestors came from, and where they first settled when they came to america. If you have done some genealogical research and you have this information, you can trace your family’s journey to your current residence on a map with some pins and some colored thread.

Materials needed:

  • A world map
  • Some sort of backing for the pins to stick into, either pegboard or some cardboard
  • Map pins in several colors
  • Thin thread in several colors

Instructions:

  1. Attach the world map to the backing
  2. For each family line that you have this information for, place the pins where your ancestors came from, where they landed in America and any other places they lived before arriving where you live now.
  3. Tie a thread to the first pin in the sequence, then use the thread to trace the route to your current city.
